The Smart Campus project was officially closed on 31/12/2014, but continues to live in the results that it has disseminated in Trentino. In addition to important research contributions, Smart Campus has created a number of services and applications that have already been taken over to be further developed within the initiatives Smart Community and interAction.
Some of these services are already available on the Google and Apple marketplaces: “iFame” – completely devised and realized by students to enhance the enjoyment of meals in university canteens – and – “ViaggiaTrento” – already widely used outside the campus too. Other services, such as “StudyMate”, “Inbox” and “ViviTrento”, will be made available soon again.
The team of Smart Campus wants to thank all those who contributed to the success of the project: first, the students who were the main stars of the initiative; then the various partners who have collaborated including Agency for the Family of the Autonomous Province of Trento , Organizing Committee of the 2014 Universiade in Trentino, Municipality of Trento, Municipality of Rovereto, Consorzio dei Comuni, ITT Marconi of Rovereto, ITT Buonarroti of Trento, MUSE, Opera Universitaria, Trentino Trasporti and Trentino Mobilità; finally, the institutions and the associations that have permitted all this with their support: Associazione Trento Rise, Fondazione Bruno Kessler and University of Trento.
Is it possible to empower the citizens of a smart city to take a more active role in designing the services they want and like, and to take part in their development and delivery? This is the challenge Smart Campus has been trying to address, supporting the campus with its students, researchers, and institutions as a scaled-down, but complete, model of a smart city: a first step towards the vision of a smart city lab covering the whole territory of Trentino.
